Frequently asked questions

How do I convert an hourly rate to an annual salary?

Multiply the hourly rate by the hours you work in a week, then by 52. For example, £15 an hour for 37.5 hours a week is £15 × 37.5 × 52 = £29,250 a year before tax.

What is £15 an hour after tax?

On a 37.5 hour week, £15 an hour is £29,250 a year. In 2026/27, with tax code 1257L in England, Wales or Northern Ireland, you keep £24,580 a year after £3,336 income tax and £1,334 National Insurance, which is £12.60 an hour.

Does holiday pay change the yearly figure?

Not if you are paid for your holidays. Salaried and most hourly employees are paid for 52 weeks a year including paid leave, which is what this calculator assumes. If you are only paid for the weeks you work, multiply by the weeks you are paid for instead.

Why is my payslip different?

Payroll works out tax and National Insurance each pay period, and your tax code, pension, student loan or overtime change the figures. This calculator gives the yearly estimate for one job with no pension or student loan.

How many working hours are in a year?

A 37.5 hour week is 1,950 hours over 52 weeks; a 40 hour week is 2,080 hours.
